The glow suggests the presence of tapetum lucidum, a membrane behind retinas that reflects light. Common in but not exclusive to nocturnal animals; [ Which is what he assumes most here will dismiss it as, so he feels compelled to add: ] I know of several humanoid species with something similar, myself included.
