[ Appearances are everything when you're a manufactured product, something not even K is immune to — his more casual attire is the result of being the equivalent of an undercover cop in his homeworld, rather than a real preference. It's important for him to blend in, not stand out. And it's part of why dressing formally makes him feel good; it's a conscious choice. Eventually his wardrobe may favour suits now that he has the luxury of developing preferences.
His smile grows a little as Connor fusses and then it's directed at Royce when he lets them inside. K pulls Connor in with him via their linked arms. ]
Yeah. Unusual weather. Almost feels like home — if it isn't raining, it's snowing there. [ Because, well, it's a post-nuclear ruined world whose environment has been mostly destroyed by industrialisation. It's rather concerning that Zephyr would decide to give the Meadous the same weather... ]
And hello to you, too, Mr. Bear. [ This is said to Bear as he pets the dog's huge shaggy head before reaching for a couple of the towels. He hands one to Connor, using the other to pat-dry his face and the most saturated areas of his clothing. He's gotten used to these sniff-inspections by various animals, so doesn't push Bear away, and also looks for where Lady might be. Catte needs pets too. ]
[ mind the dog is something that immediately gets Connor's attention, because of course it does. he almost doesn't register the offered towel at first, being just a little too focused on the sheer size of the animal suddenly greeting them at the door - he's massive, certainly more so than Sumo, and Connor's quick to scan the dog and identify the particular breed and assign the file a name ("Mr. Bear," according to K, filed under "Alfie and Royce / Housepet,") before curiosity gets the better of him, towel in one hand so the other can be busy gently petting the dog's head. ]
It's very nice to meet you, too. [ he briefly laments as usual his inability to actually feel the dog's fur coat under his palm, but Mr. Bear appears to enjoy his touch nonetheless, and Connor lets him finish his inspection with sniffs and nose bumps because surely he must smell new and quite different (he thinks. he actually has no idea.) ]
I'm assuming the Meadous doesn't have a regular monsoon season like this? [ he's assuming since the other two have been residents of the Meadous for quite some time longer than K and himself, so maybe they would have a little more insight. as for drying off, Connor focuses more on trying to make as minimal of a mess as possible, so as to be a polite houseguest. it's just ... increasingly difficult with a large mutt shoving his big wet nose into his everywhere. ] As-- ah, nostalgic as the downpour is, it would be nice to have a little advance notice, and better prepare for it-- I'm very sorry, I don't have any biscuits on me. [ last bit obviously directed at big puppo. ]
[ Bear practically wiggles around as he inspects Connor and K with his nose. He seems to appreciate the petting and talking to him, at least - and doesn't mind the fact that Connor doesn't have biscuits either. That's fine. As for Lady, she's close by, settled on the couch. She's peering at both of them lazily, not inclined to get up until she recognizes K. It's only a couple of seconds before K's got one big fluffy kitty climbing up his side and settling on his shoulder, sniffing at his hair. Hello.
Royce, on the other hand, looks amused by the androids being accosted by animals. ]
It's not usual, no. [ Royce says, glancing out to the rainy outdoors. ] Something's wrong with Zephyr, I think, but - we'll only be able to figure it out when they get back into contact with us. For right now, we just need to stay dry.
[ Once they've dried off a bit, Royce will direct K and Connor to the kitchen. To Bear, who is doing his best to be underfoot: ] Come on, leave them alone, Bear. You're going to knock them over.
[Big puppo lets out a disappointed whuff, but reluctantly backs off. He takes his massive self over to the living room and curls up on the rug, watching them through the doorway with his ears pricked. Lady stays where she is, unless she too is shooed off. One of the many benefits of being a small, graceful cat, though, is that she usually isn't.]
Where are you from, mate? The Arctic?
[Alfie asks K, as he turns down the heat on the stew and steps away from the stove. He'll offer a hearty handshake to both men in turn, first K and then Connor; he might not know Connor well, but he's seen him around town, and recognizes him.]
Close enough. Nuclear winter. Like what happened in Norfinbury, I think. [ K answers Alfie's question, and returns the handshake with a mildly amused look. So formal. He won't say anything — but might nudge Connor just a bit with his elbow if Connor holds onto Alfie's hand too long. Of the two androids, Connor's generally far more adept at social interaction, but he does occasionally have his Moments. Especially when the newness of a situation might have him feeling overwhelmed, K's noticed. So a little help may not go amiss.
He looks only too happy to let Lady keep her perch on his shoulders, reaching up to pet her as he links arms with Connor again, then heads for the kitchen. He takes a seat in what's more or less his usual spot at the table (and isn't that something, to have a usual spot in someone else's home), which still leaves ample room on either side of him if Connor chooses to sit beside him. Lady's transferred to his lap, where he continues petting her while she accessorises his suit with shed fur. ]
You think something's happened to Zephyr? [ This to Royce. ] I sent them a letter and some gifts just a few days ago, and they responded. [ Said gifts were tokens of worship, of course; he's very earnest in his worship of Zephyr, as he is with all things he puts his whole heart into. His brow furrows as he frowns. ] But I haven't heard anything from them since...
no worries!
