As for Elias, he's a bad person. Like... kind of the actual worst?

He's the person who turned Jon into the Archivist. Planned it all out, made sure to put him in horrible situations. And he didn't care who got hurt along the way. He's really good at pretending to be above it all, but he's a murderer and bastard.

He has powers sort of like Jon's but different. He can look into your head, read your mind, without having to ask you questions. He can watch things remotely. And he can put full-sensory memory experiences into your head from other people.

You chose well. And I still like the nickname. Katydid.

[ Being given a nickname is far more significant to K than he's letting on — it's adjacent to being given a name. Like a real person. But he worries about making Martin feel weird about it, so very carefully downplays it. ]

He sounds like a piece of work. Is he at all related to what happened to you? With the Lonely.

And is there anything that can be done about him? Beyond employing items like these that will hopefully block the effects of his powers. Fern also gave me a scarf that bolsters free will.

[ Despite being told Elias is directly responsible for what's happened to Sims, he... is having a hard time sympathising with the Archivist... so of course his concern is centered around Martin and how this affects him, and mitigating Elias's powers. ]

He can't mind-control people, thankfully. He's just manipulative. Like always five steps ahead of you manipulative.

I guess he's half-way responsible for what happened. He's the one who made sure Peter was put in charge of the Institute after I got Elias arrested. And he made a bet with Peter that he couldn't get me to join the Lonely fully and willingly.

I think just... not believing his lies? That's really the best way to deal with him. And avoiding him.

It's unsurprising Elias and Peter are connected like that. And I know Peter is here now as well, I don't expect anything good will come of it. Have they been causing problems for you?

[ Intentionally phrased as a request rather than an offer, in hopes that Martin will be more likely to actually reach out when he needs help, without feeling like a burden. Because he isn't one, not to K. ]

I think I pissed Elias off enough that he wants to kill me. But he's too much of a coward to do that unless he has things set out just so. Or he can arrange for someone else to do it.

Peter's... I don't know. We haven't talked all that much.

[And that's not unusual. It shouldn't make him feel like he's being ignored. It shouldn't make him feel sort of Lonely... but Peter was nothing if not excellent at getting into Martin's head enough to make joining the Lonely actually viable at one point. If Jon hadn't come back... But he had. What's past is past.]

He nearly got one of those monsters you need to be extra quiet around after me by sneaking up on me. Peter can go invisible, so... I can't really tell you to watch out for that, but be aware? He likes to stand around watching people while they don't notice him. He's as bad as one of the Beholding sometimes, honestly.
