Deer Country Employment/Training

Employment

K regularly volunteers at the Sanctuary.

Though he doesn't have an established business, he accepts carpentry commissions (just hit up his inbox). Players are free to assume their characters may have heard about him from the Trench NPCs he's done work for. He also has extensive electrical engineering knowledge.

He's a student of Sasuke's Super Awesome Ninja School and Terry Silver's Cobra Kai dojo. When Terry Silver left Trench, K was accepted into Johnny Lawrence's Cobra Kai (later rebranded Eagle Fang) dojo to continue his training.

When Manabu requested assistance running the Roost tavern, K decided to reprise his old Deerington job and joined on as a bartender to help his friend.

Folkmore Inventory

Inventory

Everything he arrived with.

From the May 2022 TDM:
A mystery trunk has appeared in front of you and whoever you completed the trial with. Inside the trunk, you will find some of your canon clothes and a few canon items.

From the August 2022 TDM, a regain for an item from home. K received his LAPD-issued spinner: a modified car capable of flight, with an interior more similar to aircraft. It has a built-in, detachable pilotfish drone.

He's earned a few other item regains through TDMs/events that have yet to be determined. He has woefully few canon items to begin with, so maybe I need to start dipping into Deerington/Deer Country items...

For completing Baba Yaga's trials, a new power/ability that has yet to be determined. (Maybe something relevant to his CR that could facilitate deeper development? I'm open to suggestions.)

A portable vinyl player and three vinyls (Herbie Hancock’s album Maiden Voyage, Billie Holiday: Lady Sings the Blues, and a mix of Aretha Franklin's greatest hits) from Jayce for Christmas, which are the first gifts K has ever received and he's very appreciative of them. c:

From the January 2023 event, a shiny golden scale.
This scale will allow characters to temporarily become a dragon themselves. This transformation only lasts about half an hour, but studying with Baba Yaga can prolong the length.

And a Golem.
Consider it a little gift from Thoth herself. The Golems will follow Star Children, wanting to help them, and can obey simple commands - if you tell them ‘goodbye’ they will power down.

Each character will have their own Golem, who will show up whenever called by the Star Child. These Golems are smaller than the mech versions, and are not interchangeable; other Star Children can't give orders to someone else's Golem. If you don’t want one, you can simply refuse to accept Thoth’s gift, or at a later date instruct it to return to her. (You won’t be getting it back again if you do that, though.)

Folkmore Permissions

Permissions

⇓in character⇓

PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Yes. He'll likely be confused and highly suspicious if he has no prior CR with your character, and unlikely to reciprocate unless he's very comfortable with your character. This may change during game events that force characters to be more affectionate.

PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: Yes. He can defend himself, but if the person attacking him is human, he's unlikely to be able to attack them in turn (depending on the circumstances; game events and K eventually developing free will could change this). So it could be pretty one sided.

ROMANCE/FLIRTING: Yes. Refer to physical affection. K is very much a romantic at heart.

SEXUAL CONTENT: Yes, if it's ever applicable. K needs a strong emotional connection with someone before he's comfortable engaging in anything sexual with them; no gender preference. Game events may influence this. Please note I'm not comfortable playing out cheating storylines or infidelity in established relationships.

PSYCHIC ABILITIES: Ask first before using them on him. He's an android and characters possessing psychic abilities will be able to tell that his mind isn't like a human's — it's more on par with a supercomputer. The majority of his memories are false artificial implants and he's aware of this fact. He's been (literally) programmed and heavily conditioned; Nexus-9 models are renowned for their absolute obedience*. K has no psychic abilities himself, but he is capable of interfacing with other androids/AI/technology (and technology gods)/etc. and communicating directly that way. If your character happens to possess anything like technopathy, the connection will be all the stronger. I love getting to play with this kind of connection between characters and exploring the possibilities, please indulge me.

(*This doesn't mean he's compelled to obey every human he comes into contact with, it's restricted to his assigned superior officer/owner/handler within the LAPD, Lieutenant Joshi, in canon. But I'm willing to explore this within the game setting, especially when he's a Familiar.)

MAGIC/POWERS: He has superhuman reflexes, strength, agility, endurance, perceptive abilities, etc. He's a Nexus-9 android optimised for combat and law enforcement and contrary to his outward lean size, he's as resilient as any of the earlier, far more bulky combat specialist models. With the return of his Coldblood abilities, he now innately possesses elemental magic as well as what his role as a Familiar grants him.

MEDICAL INFORMATION: He's an android, specifically a biorobotic type — essentially his inorganic, robotic bits are fully integrated with the organic bits; replicants are not human clones, they are explicitly androids. He heals at an accelerated rate compared to humans, and can shrug off some pretty grievous injuries within days. It takes considerable damage to slow him down. He has blood, but it's neither identical to nor compatible with human blood — vampiric characters may notice this; it's likely unappetising. It also means blood magic is unlikely to work on him. What empaths can detect from him will vary depending on their individual abilities, but in general it will be far more muted and noticeably different from what they'd detect from a human, more on par with what they'd pick up from a sentient computer. He has emotions, they're just governed by his programming. He isn't required to eat or sleep in order to remain functional, though he's physically capable of doing both, and they will help accelerate recovery and healing. Per being a Coldblood, he's immune to freezing and burning conditions, is cold to the touch unless otherwise noted, and his blood is pale blue with a smoky odor and will immediately crystalise outside of the body like ice — it can also glow in the dark, be used for jewelry, and imbue things with elemental properties.

OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS OR TRIGGERS: Bigotry against androids/AI/robots in general. Invalidating his identity as an android. The closer he is to developing free will, the less he will tolerate being treated like property.

⇓out of character⇓

BACKTAGGING: Yes, always. I'm happy to backtag but I also understand if you'd rather drop older threads to start new ones. If you'd like to continue a previously dropped thread with me, feel free to let me know.

FOURTH WALLING: In general: no thank you, this robot has enough existential crises to deal with. I'd rather not have anyone inform K he's a fictional character or treat him as though he's "posing" as one. I'm fine with characters being canon familiar with the Blade Runner movies and/or the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick that they're based on if they exist as fiction in their own universes (just don't explicitly tell K this). I'm not really into face-twinning or mistaken identities in that vein and would prefer the characters are treated as though they look and behave recognisably different. Anything specific, just ask first!

THREADHOPPING: Yes, if all players are okay with it and it isn't a private thread.

OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS/TRIGGERS: Clearly label any sensitive/triggering or NSFW content and we'll be good. I prefer to avoid overly graphic descriptions of gore (think goreporn), graphic descriptions of non-consensual sexual violence, intentional misgendering, and animal abuse.

CONTENT I ABSOLUTELY NEED WARNINGS FOR, BUT CAN STILL PLAY: Excessive gore and body horror, discussion of sexual abuse.

CONTENT I ABSOLUTELY NEED WARNINGS FOR AND THAT I CAN'T PLAY: Graphic non-consensual sexual violence. Domestic pet animal abuse/death. Certain types of body horror may fall into this category but I will handle those on a case by case basis with other players if they come up.

ANYTHING ELSE: I also have a general preferences page.

The Blade Runner universe involves themes of enslavement and fantasy racism. Replicants are literally created to be slave labour and designed for the vocations deemed too dangerous or unfit for humans, including sex work. If you'd prefer such topics not come up when tagging K or if you'd like to opt-out of tags from me for any reason, let me know. I'm happy to accommodate other players, so feel free to talk to me if there's anything in particular you want to play out. (And it should really go without saying but) I'm open to interacting with characters from any medium and OCs.

Folkmore application

★ Character Information ★
Character Name: KD6-3.7, or K.
Character Age: Chronologically less than a year old, physically and cognitively an adult.
Character Species: Replicant. That's the in-universe term for android; they can be used interchangeably.
(ETA: Of particular note is that because the term "replicant" is for all intents and purposes a brand name for Wallace Corporation androids, for K it serves as a reminder that he's a commodity, a manufactured product, a slave. The generic term "android" carries fewer negative connotations in his mind, and as such, K prefers "android" when referring to himself or being referred to. This is intentional and something characters are free to pick up on.
TL;DR: K calls himself an android in Folkmore now, not a replicant.)
Current Health: Alive. Still a bit beat up from his encounter with Sapper. Minor injuries.
Outfit: Full reference here.
His dark green laminated cotton coat with faux shearling collar (that's actually functional), a knitted long-sleeve black jumper with a black shirt underneath, sleeveless undershirt, straight cut dark brown jeans, black boxer-briefs, black tactical boots, a modified shoulder holster (based on Safariland 1090), where he carries his blaster gun. He also carries with him his badge and ID, Joi's emanator, a portable optic scanner used for identifying androids (which I believe is also K's Knowledge Integration Assistant unit), and a pair of black gloves.

Character Canon: Blade Runner.
Link to History: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, the novel which was the inspiration for Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049. Here's a full timeline, and K's personal history. Note that while aspects of Blade Runner have been featured in the Alien franchise and vice versa (because of Ridley Scott), they mainly constitute easter eggs. The two timelines don't line up perfectly, so they may or may not actually take place within the same universe; either way I'm not going to detail the entire history/timeline of the Alien universe since it has no bearing on K or his history.
Canon Point: After his handler, Lieutenant Joshi, visits him at his apartment. (Note: per his memory regain in December 2022, he now knows the full events of his canon, though he has yet to physically experience them.)
Canon Iteration: Original canon.
Canon Iteration Explanation: N/A. This is original flavour K.

ETA: As of December 2022 per an approved update, K has started to regain some of his memories of Deerington and Deer Country (in particular his friendship with Manabu Yuuki), as well as his Coldblood abilities: he's now able to innately manifest fire, ice, and lightning, in addition to not being affected by extreme heat/cold. For more details, refer to Medical Information in my Folkmore Permissions. As far as characterisation and my planned arc for K are concerned, this memory regain is intended to supplement his development in Folkmore, not overwrite it. So he is still gradually working toward personhood and autonomy, he just now has a stronger foundation from which to start.
★ Folkmore Roles & Attributes ★

Skills: Pretty much what you'd expect an android programmed for law enforcement and investigation to be good at. He's proficient in multiple forms of armed and unarmed combat, has keen observational skills, strong deductive reasoning, high intelligence, and perfect recall. He can interface with other technology. He's very self-sufficient by design and has a broad general knowledge courtesy of his programming. Replicant intelligence is said to be equal to that of the scientists who created them — he learns at a greatly accelerated rate (moreover, he enjoys learning) and is shown to understand every spoken/written language he encounters, so was presumably programmed to already know quite a few. Unsurprising, given the broad linguistic landscape of the version of Los Angeles he's from.

Canon Abilities: As a Nexus-9 android optimised for combat and law enforcement, this means many of his physical abilities are essentially at a superhuman level. His strength, reflexes, agility, endurance, resilience, combat expertise, marksmanship, and eyesight are all enhanced. He's also capable of seeing in the dark unassisted.

He heals faster and with fewer complications than a human would. He can withstand considerably more damage than a human (such as being impaled by rebar then beaten almost to death by another Nexus-9 and being on his feet again within days), and any scarring eventually heals completely. He's immune to illness and disease and won't develop infections. He can survive much harsher conditions than the average human, such as the fallout from a dirty bomb and deep space without protective gear, without suffering ill effects. But he can still die from enough direct damage or blood loss. Replicants are biorobotic androids – not human, but not fully robotic either.

He's subject to the laws of robotics as they exist in his canon, meaning he can't intentionally harm humans except in cases where his orders supersede the preservation of human life. But his obedience functions a bit differently from what's stated by the laws — he will only feel fully compelled to obey orders issued by those he recognises as his superior officers/handlers/owners. He isn't able to directly disobey them, though he can get "creative" in how he carries out their orders when needed.

As already noted above, he also now possesses his Coldblood abilities from Deer Country: he's able to innately manifest fire, ice, and lightning, in addition to not being affected by extreme heat/cold.
Role: Familiar.
Role Qualities/Attributes: He's going to manifest/retain various animal features even in humanoid form. These may vary from shift to shift since it's something he won't have full control over, but as he masters his shapeshifting abilities that may change. The features in question will vary, since he doesn't (yet?) have one set animal form. I'm borrowing some inspiration from the dæmons of His Dark Materials, where the dæmons of children are able to take any form until reaching maturity — and K's still very much in the "infancy" of his development. With the character arc I have planned for him and how much he's likely to change and grow throughout it, this feels appropriate for him. (Provided it's okay to interpret the Familiar role this way!)
Role Reasoning: Considering the role that androids serve in the Blade Runner universe, I feel he's well suited for the Familiar role and that it will enable him to achieve his greatest potential compared to the others, because it will afford him more of a choice in what he decides to do with himself. The ability to choose is integral to developing personhood. Per the description, not having clear-cut morals, preferring to keep one's head down, and understanding morals can be nuanced all definitely apply to him. Of course, depending on his character development in the game, I can also see his role changing to reflect that. But starting out, Familiar seems best. I'm also very interested in him forming a bond with a Legend or Myth character (or with a Familiar if he becomes a Legend or Myth himself) and getting to explore the associated mechanics together; it would perfectly tie into his planned character arc.
★ Personality ★

Please choose one of the follow options for your personality section. Please clarify which option you have picked and, if option 2, which questions you are answering:

Option 1. Summarize your character's personality in general and what their full potential would look like to them and what they would be willing to go through to meet that potential and what gaining that potential would mean to them. 400-800 word requirement.

I chose option 1. But I'm interested in answering the second option's questions just for fun, so I'll keep those at the end of the app for my own reference.

Outwardly K appears stoic and unemotive, behaving almost robotically, if you will. He isn't especially reactive in general and is able to maintain a sense of equanimity and single-minded focus even during tense situations, acting decisively. A prime example of this is shown in canon: when his aircraft is in the process of crashing, he doesn't panic or give into fear, but calmly prepares the aircraft and himself for the impact. This demeanour is arguably as much the result of his programming as it is his personality. In his case, they may be one and the same.

The societally accepted treatment of replicants is characterised by violence, degradation, depersonalisation, and enslavement, treatment which even K's human co-workers within the Los Angeles Police Department subject him to. So constant is this abuse that despite having only been alive for a few months, K has already grown inured to it and endures it without complaint, while the stranglehold of his programming strictly inhibits retaliation. He accepts it as simply being what life is for a replicant and knows that trying to buck the status quo can and often does lead to even more severe consequences. Humans despise him for being a replicant, while other replicants ostracise him for being a blade runner — a specialised officer tasked with hunting down rogue replicants — the duty for which he was designed. In this world he's an outcast even amongst outcasts, with his worth being wholly measured by how he can be used and what can be taken from him.

His sole source of companionship is provided by his holographic companion AI, Joi, whom he's shown to be emotionally attached to; she's the only individual he ever expresses his feelings to or confides in. Though they're unable to physically interact, he enjoys many of the trappings of a typical romantic relationship with her, while being aware of the fact she's bound by her programming and isn't capable of having genuine feelings for him. But, then, he isn't sure he's even capable of genuine emotions himself, and as he tells her: she's real to him. That's enough. Joi's appearance and voice are customisable to suit the preferences of her user, but as one of the advertisements for her model reveals, K's Joi remains in her default state, indicating his lack of preferences. It's a small detail, but very telling. K is just as much a product and commodity as she is, likewise limited by the constraints of his programming. But in spite of everything, he approaches Joi as a real person and encourages her to consider her own preferences and desires and motivations rather than existing to be a reflection of his; he attempts to provide her with a type of freedom that he's unlikely to ever have himself.

While his devotion to Joi is by choice, his inherent loyalty and absolute obedience to his superior officer and owner within the LAPD, Lieutenant Joshi, are the result of his programming. He's incapable of lying to her for the same reason. They share a cordially professional relationship and at times she seems almost fond of him, to the point where on at least one occasion she subtly propositions him. Though she'd be fully within her rights simply ordering him to accept her advances, she doesn't, and accepts his answer when he rebuffs her — but with an attitude that suggests she isn't pleased about her property rejecting her. It's noteworthy as being one of the few (possibly only) times K's been allowed anything approaching a choice in his interactions with humans.

His concept of morality and what constitutes "right" and "wrong" is somewhat rudimentary due to his being an android designed for obedience. It just doesn't occur to him to question why he's ordered to do what he does, because he's been designed that way; his own wants and feelings are irrelevant. But he doesn't relish the duty he's forced to carry out, that of hunting down and killing his own kind — though he doesn't actually consider these earlier models his own kind, a distinction that only really exists to enable him to fulfill his duties without incurring cognitive dissonance or mental instability. The act of killing other replicants isn't even referred to by that term, but by the more palatable "retirement", coined by humans. Because they aren't viewed or legally recognised as people, they're merely tools made to serve humanity and meant to be disposed of at their discretion. Displaying any indication that they may be developing free will is a virtually guaranteed death sentence and K himself regularly undergoes mandatory testing to ensure he's operating as intended. This is all such a fundamental doctrine of the world K's from that he doesn't believe he's a person, either, and it influences his limited spiritual beliefs — that only humans are capable of possessing souls ("to be born is to have a soul, I guess"), not replicants.

His greatest insecurity is without a doubt the fact he's an artificially created being with false memory implants that leave him uncertain whether even his emotional responses are real, or if they're just a product of his programming like everything else about him. He's only recently been discovering his own preferences: he helps himself to an alcoholic drink after a rough day at work (despite alcohol having no effect on replicants), appreciates old jazz music, and likes reading, especially to Joi; Pale Fire is his favourite book. He enjoys dancing, poetry, things that seem incongruous with what he was designed to be, to do — and thus potentially dangerous. And yet his ability to even have preferences is significant to him, making him feel a little more like an actual person, even if only within the privacy of his own mind.

Based on the themes of the Blade Runner canon, K's story within it, and what I would be most interested in exploring as his player, K's full potential will be achieving personhood and everything that will entail for him. Free will and autonomy. Learning how to actually be a person. Having connections with other people that are by choice, not based on his programming to serve them. Developing more preferences, discovering the world, learning hobbies, exploring his emotional capacity, just growing as a person. He ultimately sacrifices his life in canon to achieve this, so it's probably safe to say he would endure virtually anything if it helps facilitate this goal.

Everything down here is just for my own reference.

Option 2. Choose FOUR-FIVE of the following questions to answer and expand upon. You may choose a fifth question if you feel it is integral to your character's personality. Each answer has a 100-300 word requirement.

OPTION 2 QUESTIONS (PICK 4-5) 100-300 WORD LIMIT EACH:

  • What was the most traumatic experience your character endured? How did this change them?

  • What experience challenged your chaaracter's core beliefs? How did they handle this or change from it?

  • What is the most important and defining relationship(s) in your character's life and why?

  • What is a headcanon (or two) you feel strongly about and that you prefer playing your character with? How is this supported in canon and why do you think it benefits the character's story?

  • What is your character's moral code? Do they have one? Why or why not?

  • What are your characters dreams and nightmares? Do you believe they are more likely to obtain one rather than the other?

  • If you could give your character a Taylor Swift playlist, which songs would be on it and what would they represent about your character?

  • What does your character feel like they struggle with still? Where could they improve? This could be physically, mentally, emotionally, or otherwise.

  • Is your character capable of forgiveness or will they hold a grudge until they die? Would anything ever make them change their mind?

  • If your character could change one thing about their past, what would it be and why? Or why not?

  • What is your character's safespace? When do they feel the most settled and comfortable? When do they feel confident and relaxed?

  • What would your character sacrifice to get what they want or to reach their potential? What have they sacrificed already?

  • What famous folklore, legend, or myth would you associate your character with? Are they literally inspired by Snow White? Do they have similar struggles or energy as Red Riding Hood?

  • Which Taylor Swift era is your character going through right now and why?

  • What is a time where your character failed drastically at something and how did it impact them, what did they do about it?

K's Omen (name to be determined)

    Omen

Visual inspiration. As K himself is a biorobotic android, I felt his omen should reflect a similar aesthetic: a (probably genderless) biomechanical bee because of reasons. Thematically, with consideration for the role androids have in his canon world's society, a bee just seemed an appropriate choice.

In any of its larger and more monstrous forms, it takes on the appearance of a biomechanical dragon with six legs and multiple wings (which, to be honest, is because I simply prefer this aesthetic over any of the monstrous insectoid references I found. I'm very fond of my glowy robodragons.)

K's home and business were brought into Trench with him, and thus the entirety of his Deerington inventory + the Deerington Public House. He shared a home with Technical Boy before the god vanished from Trench. It's worth noting that K still wears the ring Technical Boy gave him.

Ball Bearing Compass that was received on his Blessed Day, November 12th 2021.
On your Blessed Day this month, if your patron Pthumerian is the Tower, you will recieve a Ball Bearing Compass. While this tool can be used for the traditional purposes of drawing perfect circles on paper, one will find its strength is best used on non-traditional surfaces such as walls, floors, or the earth itself. Draw a circle and you will create a unique "rabbit hole" that opens up into a small, completely impervious room stocked with useful supplies like food, medicine, warm blankets, and possibly even a bed and a warm fire. This room will only last 24 hours but it can be a reprieve from a deadly world and not a bad tool to have with you when you're camping in harsh conditions. The hole can only be entered by those the artist wants to enter. It's a perfect hideaway for those seeking refuge. Anyone can use this tool. Once it has been used, it must recharge for 24 hours before it can be used again. The room it creates should never be bigger than a bedroom and will never contain magical items. Monsters cannot access this room regardless of event circumstances. It can be lost. It will appear on any desk-like surface of the Sleeper with a red ribbon tied around it.

January 2022 Blessing: a fancy outfit
Madam Generosity lives up to her namesake in that she will be blessing all Sleepers with a simple gift: a magnificent outfit perfect for a ballpython! The outfit looks perfectly made for your character down to style, fit, color, themes, material, and other factors a character would find ideal in a fancy fit. How generous indeed! Even if you are not one for fashion, you'll wind up loving the outfit and finding it oddly perfect for you. To some this might raise suspicion, but for others, they may just take it as a kind, insightful gesture from a literal god.

Thanks in part to Dirk's help with materials, K has been able to resume one of his favourite creative pursuits of building sculptures from scrap metal and miscellaneous discarded parts. The above was given to Dirk's splint, Lil D.

A blue butterfly given to Viktor.

A teacher and student pair given to Sasuke.

    An anglerfish given to Savage.

A hummingbird with daisies given to Snow White.

A scrap metal sculpture of Magnet given to Manabu.

An Eagle Fang scrap metal sculpture given to Johnny.

A mechanical Rio toy made with help from and given to Viktor.

Miscellaneous that K is either working on or has completed.

A robot-print apron. Can often be seen wearing it at the Sanctuary.

A Blood Relic and Moon Drop Relic.
    (TBD)

A dragon-headed magical compass from the October 2022 event.

A mechanical song bird that was received on his Blessed Day, November 12th 2022.
On your Blessed Day this month, your Patron Pthumerian will bless you with a mechanical song bird. It chirps melodically from time to time and has a small key on its back to wind it up for a more steady tune. Listening to the bird's song in full will bring a person comfort and warmth, though it does not seem to offer any benefits to corruption and/or beasthood. However, it does seem to bring listeners a boost in creativity, whether it's finally being able to figure out a problem they were trying to solve for ages, or returning to a canvas they abandoned weeks ago, or writing down fresh lines in a project they had all but forgotten about... The bird is a perfect companion for anyone who is stuck in a mental road block. Be careful about relying on the song for creative inspiration, though! Those who listen to the bird for too long will find that they begin to feel lightheaded and dizzy, sometimes having mild hallucinations, and eventually, they will even black out. When they come to again, they will find themselves in one of the many establishments in the Cellar Door, covered in gold glitter, and feeling just the slightest bit hungover. It's hard to tell how much time has gone by while they were out, but any Sleeper who asks will find that as much as two days may have passed without them even realizing.

A silver ring on a chain that glows when the moonlight hits it, from the November 2022 event.
Never Mind will also provide them with a small, silver ring on a chain, one that glows when the moonlight hits it. The ring will help to lessen how easily beasts can detect the person wearing it and help to give them a chance to run away rather than fight if they need to.

    A doll from Paimon.

A pumpkin pie from Snow White.

A six pack of the Trench equivalent to Coors Banquet and a T-shirt that reads "Do not fist android girls dudes" from Johnny.

    Several books from Darth Maul.

A fancy bloodgem-hextech powered shield from Viktor.
it's bloodgem-hextech, which is likely obvious from the darkblood gem attached. a bracer for one arm, bordering on steampunk in viktor's typical gear and metal heavy design, the wiring branching out in arcane looking runes. when worn and the switched flipped it can make a large magic shield in an oval, large enough to cover k's head and most of his upper body. the shield itself can take a great deal of damage, though it will drain the darkblood gem faster the more it handles.

A beaded bee made to look like K's Omen from Luna.

January 2023 Blessing: another fancy outfit (TBD)
Once again, Madam Generosity will bless ALL SLEEPERS with an outfit for her annual party. The outfit looks perfectly made for your character down to style, fit, color, themes, material, and other factors a character would find ideal in a fancy fit. To some this might raise suspicion, but hopefully others who remember from last year will note that the outfits themselves are (probably) harmless.

July 2023 Blessing: A clockwork key, a final gift from the Moon Presence.

Rather than a blessing solely for the favored of the Reckoning on their Blessed Day, a unique gift is found by every sleeper in Trench on the 8th of the month. A clockwork key may be found on a chain around their neck when they wake that morning. The keys are themselves identical, and when one holds theirs there is an obvious sense of peace upon them. The key's effect is incredibly profound, and appears to be one last gift to the sleepers.

If one travels into unexplored regions of Trench's planet, the key will protect them from any excess blood corruption that appears to fill the world. It will not completely avoid corruption, as there is always something of a peril even in Trench. However, it will mitigate the worst of it when one is far away from civilization, causing it to be possible for Sleepers to travel much further from the city's limits and, if they can find lanterns, potentially place them down a considerable distance away. It minimizes the risk of instantly or quickly falling into beasthood by traveling "too far." A note will explain that the gift is to them, not from the Reckoning, but from the Moon Presence herself. Cynthia tells those who choose to remain that they, and any sleeper who arrives afterwards, will be given keys like this, so that they may search out the true nature of this world, that they may see what her daughter has wrought with their own eyes.

    2. K's spinner (a flying car) that he had in Deerington
    3. The Deerington Public House business
Content Warnings for Character: The Blade Runner universe involves themes of enslavement and fantasy racism. Replicants are literally created to be slave labour and designed for the vocations deemed too dangerous or unfit for humans, including but not limited to sex work.

    Original Deerington Application

    • Link to Accepted Deerington Application: Here.
    • Additional Adjustments to include: If you want to add anything significant such as CRAU bullet points for your own reference, explanations, or clarifications let us know here. This might also be a good place to update your application if you feel it needs it for our new standards in regards to relationships/key moments explained.

If you are deciding to have a canon update at this time, please include what that update is for your character here.

In K's canon, humans despise him for being an android, while other androids despise him for being a blade runner that's ordered (by humans) to hunt them down — he's an outcast even amongst outcasts. Because of this, he lives in isolation and has only a couple noteworthy canon Core Relationships as of the canon point I took him from.

Joi: She is K's hologram AI companion designed by the same corporation that manufactured him. These AI companions are marketed toward humans, but because K himself is also a form of AI, they share a unique relationship; he doesn't consider himself her owner, but more of a partner. They are both subject to their respective programming, with Joi's being less sophisticated in sometimes obvious ways that K is learning to accommodate while treating her like a person. Though she's designed to learn and adapt to the preferences of her user, K seems to encourage her to develop her own preferences and tries to give her what freedom he can in the form of an emanator, which allows her to travel beyond his apartment — from that point on he takes Joi with him wherever he goes.

Lieutenant Joshi: She is K's human superior officer in the LAPD as well as being his handler/owner. They share a cordially professional relationship for the most part, and though she seems fond of him (with an underlying sexual attraction if her proposition was any indication), her sentimentality only extends so far: it remains explicitly clear that he is her property and is expected to obey her orders without question, regardless of how he may feel about them. The canon moment I linked to is a prime example of that, where Lieutenant Joshi questions K's willingness to obey by asking if he's refusing her orders, which he soundly puts to rest with his reply: "I wasn't aware that was an option, madam." Because for him and all androids like him, choice and consent literally don't exist.

In Deerington, he developed significant relationships with several characters.

Technical Boy: Being a god of technology, K felt an immediate affinity with him from the start that only grew more profound the closer they became. For the first time in K's short life, he felt truly seen and understood by someone. As their respective defenses were lowered and they allowed themselves to be vulnerable with each other, their friendship eventually evolved into a romantic relationship. He is, without a doubt, the person who has had the greatest influence on K, having helped K to develop his sense of personhood and budding autonomy by always encouraging him to make his own choices. He is also why K chose to teach computer science at Deerington High, knowing that it would double as a sort of indirect worship for the god and help him in such a technologically limited dream world. They formalised their commitment to each other when they exchanged rings on their anniversary.

Fern: One of the first people K met in Deerington. They found common ground in their respective origins and objectification, and from there it steadily grew into a friendship with K sometimes taking on something of a mentor role, and doing what he could to encourage Fern's sense of self and personhood. He also taught Fern gun safety and shooting skills, and offered what relationship advice he could when Fern became involved with Varian. Both were curious about the human experience of school, and agreed to give it a try together with Fern as a student and K deciding to teach math and computer science, an experience that he wound up enjoying, enough to consider tutoring in the future.

Arid: A fellow AI. Though initially a bit mistrustful of one another, they quickly bonded over their shared experiences and oppression at the hands of humans and became good friends, often protecting and encouraging one another. K took it upon himself to learn how to maintain her combat suit, skills which would end up being needed on several occasions and helped to fuel his thirst for knowledge, compelling him to branch out and begin learning other sciences as well. Arid agreed to work as a bouncer at the pub K owned, a position which she held for the remainder of their time in the dream town.

Mad Sweeney: Another god from the same world as Technical Boy. And despite Sweeney and Technical Boy's constant antagonism toward one another due to the Old Gods vs. New Gods conflict, as K learnt more about the leprechaun and their particular brand of gods, he and Sweeney grew closer. K believed in him, in a literal sense, which is significant for gods of this type as belief is what keeps them alive. After Sweeney's event-given magical ring destroyed his little shack of a house, K was quick to volunteer to help him, expanding his repertoire to learn carpentry and related house renovation skills.

Martin Blackwood: Despite K's hostile regard for Martin's boyfriend, Jonathan Sims, due to his attack(s) against Arid, K and Martin surprisingly wound up becoming very good friends. They frequently assisted each other during the monthly horrors of Deerington, and eventually started spending time together outside of that by K's own request, with Martin helping K develop his creativity and cooking skills and K doing what he could to bolster Martin's dismal self-esteem and combat abilities. Both had led very isolated, lonely lives (Lonely in Martin's case) before Deerington and bonded all the closer because of it.

During the "pack" event, K found himself adopted into a family of sorts that consisted of: Ben Dearborn, Fern, Luna Lovegood, Peter Graham, Technical Boy (who also became K's bonded mate), The OA, Will Byers, and Will Graham. He continued to feel echoes of that familial bond throughout the remainder of his time in Deerington and it often influenced his interaction with these characters, especially Fern, Peter (plus Paimon), and Luna.

Wrench: The very first job K took in Deerington was at Wrench's barbershop, where he worked in a managerial position and used it as an opportunity to start meeting more Sleepers in a safe environment. Due to the unpredictable nature of the dream town and the frequency of monster attacks, K took it upon himself to double as security when needed and kept an eye on the shop even during off-hours. Desiring to better understand the nuances of American Sign Language and hoping to cultivate more of a friendship with Wrench in the process, K asked him for lessons, and often got to practise at the shop with Baby, who was also employed there.

Bucky Barnes: Though they haven't known each other long, Bucky (or "Matthew" as K knows him) has made a significant impression on him through the memories of Bucky's past as the Winter Soldier that K witnessed. He's very curious about this human who understands better than most what programmed obedience and lacking free will actually entails, hoping that they might one day become closer and maybe help each other.

The shiny Sandygast K acquired during the ghost Pokémon event warrants an honourable mention because he cares for it as a sort of pet-child. Previously he and Tech Boy had discussed their feelings on hypothetical parenthood in the future and the Sandygast (along with Tech Boy's far more mischievous Gastly) helped to solidify those feelings in K; he's been enjoying Poképarenthood and is curious what the future may hold for his little family.

    Deer Country Attributes

    • Canon Powers: As explained in my original app, K has no powers, as such, though many of his senses and physical abilities are essentially at a superhuman level. He also possesses the accelerated healing that is standard in replicants.
    • Blood Type: Coldblood.
    • Omen: A biomechanical bee (think xenomorph aesthetics) because of reasons; in its larger and more monstrous forms, it has the appearance of a biomechanical dragon.
    • Blessed Day: November 12, K's incept date (the android equivalent of a "birth"day).
    • Patron Pthumerian: The Tower.
    • Blood Power Manifestation: I intend to have these powers develop as K settles into the new world, and once I have a better idea of what would best complement his character development and my plans for his arc. But, tentatively, I'm thinking elemental powers that he will apply in creative ways beyond just augmenting weapons. Weaponry will certainly be part of it because protecting those he cares for is his top priority, but as he is also striving to cultivate his creativity and distance himself from his canon job of being forced to hunt and kill fellow androids, he'll be inclined to explore more unconventionally beneficial uses for his new powers if possible. Of particular interest will be figuring out if any of his abilities (especially lightning-related) can complement or bolster Tech Boy's innate technology god abilities and/or be harnessed to provide an alternate source of power for him in such a low-tech world. I'm also very interested in possible healing applications for his powers, to whatever extent Coldbloods are capable of it.

    K's Deerington Employment

    Manes on Main

In March 2020, K was hired to work at Manes on Main as the Shop Manager.

    Deerington Public House

After assisting with the pre-opening cleanup of the Deerington Public House, K offered to help out part-time as a bartender as well. With the disappearances of both Thomas Shelby and Nancy Bellrose, K assumed ownership of the pub and continues to work as a bartender there.

    The Deerington Public House

    Location of Business: Crimson Drive
    General Income: $$-$$$
    Owner(s) of Business: KD6-3.7 (manager/bartender)
    Employees: Arid (bouncer)

An intimate hole-in-the-wall style pub with a 1920s Birmingham flair. Dark hard wood and old glass is the primary aesthetic. The bar holds in the scent of strong whiskey and smoke. Large windows look out onto the street, but thick curtains can be drawn back for privacy or ambiance. While on occasion the pub does host extravagant parties, The Public House is primarily a destination for those looking for peace and quiet, a stiff drink, and low conversation. No music is preformed here per the owner's request.

The pub is able to be rented out for private functions. Additionally, there is a private room available for meetings which offers a window opening directly to the bar.

(Description courtesy of Thomas Shelby's player.)

Additionally, K heads the Technology department and is a Combat Specialist in F.E.A.R. and teaches math and computer science at the Deerington High School.
